The New Year got off to a quick and exciting start for American Language Services. We were called on at home and around the world. We bridged communications between business and national leaders while also playing a part in helping countries in Europe prepare for emergencies and disasters.
Working with Louisiana State University, we will be in Bulgaria and Romania to deliver interpretation services for four major conferences on emergency and disaster preparedness. We’ll also be on the LSU campus in the U.S. to provide Turkish interpretation. Not only that, American Language Services translators will be translating documents for all five events.
Our work supports Louisiana State University’s National Center for Biomedical Research and Training. The Center educates international law enforcement agencies on how to prepare for a biological event, terrorist attack or natural disaster. Another university, further east, also called on us for help.
Located in Washington, D.C. and one of the top universities in the nation, Georgetown University has worked with American Language Services for many years. This month, we were asked to translate a number of documents into African French. We’re proud of our partnerships with the educational community, which include such well-known institutions as Harvard, Yale and Stanford University.
Although our work with the universities in January is impressive, we also got a chance to help two former U.S. presidents and a modern-day business tycoon cross language barriers.
At the Cosmopolitan Hotel, one of Las Vegas’ newest and most lavish resorts, our French, Spanish and Mandarin interpreters simultaneously interpreted for former presidents Bush, Carter and businessman Donald Trump. The leaders were guest speakers at the Hearing Innovation Expo, a global event for independent hearing care professionals. Attendees learned about the latest innovations in hearing science and technology, patient care and business practices.
At the event, we also provided four interpreting booths, more than 200 headsets and well-trained technicians to ensure the equipment ran smoothly.
This year American Language Services is celebrating 30 years as a premier language services provider. We take pride in having one of the highest customer satisfaction and retention rates in the industry and we’re proud of our A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. We also want to thank our many loyal customers who have relied on us year after year to provide them with excellent operational and customer-centered services.

For American Language Services, the New Year is always a good time to take a step back and look at where we’re at and where we’re going. Being a language service provider demands a global view. The earth is home to about 7 billion people. And last year, they spent more than $20 trillion (that’s $20,000,000,000,000) for goods and services. Much of that commerce involved more than one language. In fact, the language market has continued to grow at a very rapid clip over the last 25 years. It has grown by an average of 6.5% yearly in this time frame. In 2013, it is estimated that the total language market was nearly $35 billion in sales. The growth from 2009 to 2013 alone has been impressive, from $23.5 Billion to where it is now. This is about a 50% increase in this time span.
Just like in the rest of the world, the language services market share continues to grow here in the U.S. With about 36% of the global market, revenues in North America are expected to exceed 13 billion in 2014 with the vast majority being in the U.S. The other main world markets are in Europe and Asia. The EU represents about 49% and Asia 11% respectively.
So how does American Language Services stack up among the more than 27,000 global providers?
The figures are not quite finalized yet, but according to independent industry reports, American Language Services rank in North America, which is determined by yearly sales, is an impressive # 26.
Worldwide, American Language Services ranking is a notable # 108. We’re proud of these accomplishments and we’re proud to be celebrating our 30th year as a language service provider. So what’s our secret to surviving and thriving in such a competitive environment?
Our goal is a simple one: excellence. Our teams of linguists, project managers and other support professionals are passionate about delivering operational and service excellence at a good value. We’re available across every time zone, in which we provide interpretation, translation, transcription and voiceover/dubbing services in every language. Our proprietary database that includes thousands of the worlds’ best, experienced, qualified and prescreened linguists, along with our quality assurance processes, where we have earned ISO certification in two categories has allowed us to consistently perform at the highest level.
Our national and international rankings tell us that we are doing a lot of things right. Having some of the highest customer retention and referral rates in the industry further serves as a testament to the quality services we have been providing for three decades.

Interpretation Services Helps Make the Democratic Process More Transparent to Those from Cultures Around the World
American Languages Services (AML-Global) took part in the recent presidential debates, providing language interpretation services to accommodate non-English speaking members of the debate’s on-site audience.
As President Barack Obama squared off with challenger Mitt Romney, AML-Global’s Arabic language interpreters were on the scene providing language interpretation for Arabic-speaking spectators.
