Celebrating Women’s History Month

March is Women History Month and it celebrates the feats and contributions of women to culture, history and society.  There are many distinguished women who overcame hurdles to bring awareness and create change for the advancement of society. For example, Malala Yousafzi is a notable young woman from Pakistan. She is a female activist and the youngest to receive a Nobel Prize in 2014.  Despite an assassination attempt on her life, Malala continues to actively advocate worldwide education for women.

AML-Global is very proud of the accomplishments of women around the world and their contributions to advancement of society. Equality in society has tremendously improved thanks to the efforts of great women such as Susan B. Anthony and Malala Yousafzi. Throughout the years we participated in conferences in a myriad of topics regarding women’s rights. These conferences covered many topics including reproductive rights, human rights, farming, educational, political, security concerns, military matters, among many other topics.

AML-Global has provided not only conference interpreting for women’s rights, we have also provided translation and transcription services as well. AML-Global is not only equipped to handle translations and interpreting requests but also transcription requests. Transcription is defined as listening to a recording of an audio and converting what’s being said into a document. Transcribing an audio takes time and effort because various factors have to be taken into account such as whether the recording is clear, how many people are speaking, the speed at which they talk, and the intelligibility of their voices.

AML-Global has a reliable and experienced transcription team that deliver accurate text in a timely manner. With the advent of technology the process of transcribing has become much easier. AML-Global can receive and send files from virtually any place. Our amalgamation of the latest technology and highly experienced transcribers makes the process of transcribing simple and quick turnaround time for the client.

AML-Global completed a recent job for the U.S. Air Force. They requested a transcription of interview recordings of officers from English to English. We did an excellent job for them and they were pleased with the outcome.  We have dealt with many types of transcription requests from legal to entertainment. Some organizations whom we have served over the years are Internal Revenue Service, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Homeland Security to name a few.

American Language Services is a proud provider of translation, interpretation, transcription and media services to private industry, government at all levels, and educational and non-profit organizations. American Red Cross Month

President Franklin D. Roosevelt was the first to announce March as Red Cross Month in 1943. From there on, every president in the United States has titled March as Red Cross Month. American Red Cross is a non-profit, humanitarian organization that provides domestic disaster relief, blood donations, educational programs, and international relief. It has been helping people for more than 130 years. AML-Global is proud to work with so many non-profits on a regular and ongoing basis. These non-profits do fabulous work and solve many problems. We have worked with organizations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Clinton Initiative, Feed the Children, The Elizabeth Glazer Foundation, Habitat for Horses, ASPCA, Disable Veteran Business, Legal Aid Foundation, Hemophilia Foundation, Global Food Bank, UN Refugee Agency, World Relief, World Wildlife Fund, Habitat for Humanity, and International Health Cooperative to name some.

Along with the great work we do with non-profits, AML-Global has provided translations for certificates, legal documents, technical documents, and medical documents to name a few. AML-Global recently did a translation job for Karl Storz Endoskope. This company is a global supplier and producer of medical gadgets and devices. It has many subsidiaries located in different continents and its headquarters are located in Germany. Karl Storz Endoskope requested a translation of its policies from English to French and Spanish languages. Our translators did a very good job and the company was very pleased with the translations.

We have perhaps the largest database of translators who are proficient to translate different languages. We often receive requests to translate not only common languages, but also specialized languages such as Farsi, Haitian Creole, Hebrew, Greek etc. Our translators are specialized and experienced professionals capable of translating every language.

We also do legal translations and have successfully served many Law Offices who seek our translation services. A year ago, our translators did a great job in translating a 9 page document from Mongolian to English. No matter how specialized the language is, we are always able to get the job done for the client.

Our expert legal interpreting services on specialized languages are called upon as well.  Sometime back, C.Y. Lee Legal Group, PLLC requested a Tagalog interpreter to be present at the court.  Tagalog is a language spoken in some parts of Philippines. Although such languages are not called upon frequently, there still exists a demand for specialized interpreters in many languages for a number of different types of assignments.

It’s that Time of the Year to Wear Green

It is already St. Patrick’s Day! This occasion is celebrated all over the world on March 17. Shamrocks, leprechauns, the Celtic cross, and pots of gold symbolize the cultural and religious festivity.  St. Patrick’s Day is an unofficial declared national holiday and during this time, people dress up in green clothing, host parties and festivals featuring Irish foods and drinks.  We all become Irish for a short time at this time of year. As they say the luck of the Irish.

AML –Global appreciates the luck of the Irish but doesn’t just count on luck.  We have worked hard and consistently over many years, and have developed one of the largest database of interpreters in the country who are specialized and experienced professionals proficient in interpreting all types of languages. We have a very large client list and have served a multitude of industries throughout the world. Included in this industries are universities and libraries who seek our linguistic expertise. Recently, we provided Harvard University with Mandarin interpreters for their annual Harvard China Forum. It is an annual event that is held at Harvard University every year. We also provided the equipment and a technician to ensure the event ran smoothly.

Recently AML-Global provided 3 American Sign Language interpreters to Washington Research Library for their annual meeting. The Washington Research Library is a non-profit organization founded in 1987.  Its role is to enhance the learning and sharing experience of various universities located in the Washington DC area. The event was held in the Marvin Center Grand ballroom in Washington DC. It was a very large event consisting of 200 people. Though it was an extremely last minute request, AML-Global was able to provide excellent service with great interpreters. We have a huge number of ASL interpreters in the system whom we work with that made it easy to meet this last minute request.  The ASL interpreters did a marvelous job and the event was a success.

AML-Global also handled an interpreting task for Carnival Travel. They requested Farsi interpreters as tour guides to show their visitors around three locations, New York, Washington DC, and California. Carnival Travel is a travel agency located in in Dubai. Companies around the globe contact AML-Global for their translation and interpretation needs.

AML-Global is proficient in handling various types of interpreting requests including specialized languages and American Sign Language. Even if the specialized languages are not widely spoken there is still a demand for them. We have perhaps the largest database of interpreters in the United States and often have access to interpreters where others do not. Recently we completed some interpreting jobs for Haitian Creole, Punjabi, Tagalog and Ilonggo languages.

March Madness

March Madness is nearly upon us. The NCAA college basketball games starts from the second week of March until first week of April. March Madness is phenomenon that grips and hypnotizes basketball fans every year. It is the ultimate tournament that determines the champions of college basketball. 68 basketball teams will be competing against each other to win the national title. It has become a very popular event and both sports and non-sports fans get into a frenzy.

AML-Global is looking forward to the upcoming NCAA college basketball season. The highly anticipated season has made us agitated yet excited because we can’t wait to find out the winner of the tournament. Every year there are surprises in the basketball season and this unpredictability creates suspense and excitement in all of us.

AML-Global had a busy month with many unique requests coming in for transcriptions. We handled some interview transcriptions of champion golfers for the upcoming US Open Coverage on Fox Sports. The interviews transcribed were of champion golfers, Angel Cabrerra and Hideki Matsuyama. It was a one day job, and the two interviews were transcribed from Spanish to English, and Japanese to English. Our translators delivered the job in one day and it was a very successful job.

AML-Global has done a lot of work for prestigious sport organizations such as the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Major League Baseball (MLB). Recently, NBA requested equipment for one of their big meetings. The meeting was to be held between the NBA and the World Basketball Federation in New York City. They already had their own in-house interpreters for 4 languages, Chinese, English, Spanish and Turkish. They requested AML-Global supply them with equipment. AML-Global supplied 4 table top booths, a technician and headsets and receivers. The equipment was delivered on time and the NBA was very pleased with the outcome.

AML-Global has its own supply of professional and high quality equipment for language interpretation in business meetings, conferences, and other events. The equipment is stored in key regional locations for easy accessibility and to reduce costs for any delivery needed. AML-Global always strives to deliver the best service for their clients and maintain the highest customer satisfaction.

January is Flying By

It’s hard to believe that January is almost over. It just seemed like yesterday we were celebrating New Year’s and trying to shake the cobwebs out. Like a lot of parents used to say growing up, it’s amazing how fast time flies by. As a kid, you don’t really believe that, but now as adults, it’s so true.

As we all know, time is a relative concept. When you’re struggling to find the right words to communicate, particularly, when it involves a language not native to you, time seems to slow down…
Companies and individuals face challenges on a daily basis on how to communicate from one language to another. Whether it be in written form, which takes translation of documents, verbal form, which takes interpreting, audio transcriptions, or through media services, this is a key challenge that must be overcome.

American Language Services, one of the oldest and largest language service providers in the United States, works with a variety of individuals, companies, governmental agencies, educational institutions, and non-profits, to name just some. We work with these organizations solving complex foreign language communication issues in a wide variety of settings.

In the last week, we have done just that with some of our valued clients. Two quick samples of the work we’ve done this week. Louisiana State University, one of our regular clients, is just starting a 1-week training event taking place in Kosovo. We are supplying several Albanian interpreters, equipment, and technical support for a very important anti-terrorism and bio-warfare trainings. We will also be working with them supplying Turkish interpreters and equipment on campus at LSU in the next 30 to 60 days.

This week, we are on the latter stages of completing a very large translation, script localization, and voice-over project for a governmental agency. Confidentiality does not allow us to name the client, however, we are providing media services in 6 languages – French, Spanish, Bengali, Arabic, Burmese and French-Haitian-Creole. This is allowing the Federal Agency to work with under-privileged minorities to resolve a variety of problems and challenges in their lives, particularly, involving children.

American Language Services is a proud provider of voice over, translation, interpretation, transcription and media services to private industry, government at all levels, and educational and non-profit organizations. Super Bowl Buildup

For all you sports fans out there across the world, the NFL playoffs have been in full swing and the upcoming Super Bowl looks like it’s going to be an epic battle. The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will be vying for the prestigious world championship in Super Bowl 49 taking place in Phoenix, Arizona.

For the true sports fans, I’m sure this is going to be a very exciting and close game. For others who are more into the recreation and event of the game itself, this is always an entertaining, unique, American tradition. While American Football is not the most popular sport in the world (that honor belongs to soccer). The Super Bowl has become one of the largest single sporting events worldwide. The anticipated viewing audience for the event is in the hundreds of millions of people and will be telecast in over 150 languages worldwide.

We here at American Language Services, like so many other companies around the United States, will be enjoying the game on February 1st. I’m sure there will be a lot of good-natured ribbing going back and forth amongst ourselves. Our company is proud to assist in the communication effort between written, verbal languages around the world.

In the sports world alone, we have done some very fascinating projects. A few years back, the San Diego Padres contacted us and we supplied Japanese, Korean, and Spanish interpreters for the world baseball classic. We have also supplied document translation in Spanish for many well-known boxing champions who needed sophisticated contracts and other documentation to sign for big fights. We’ve worked with the Mixed Martial Arts association providing Brazilian, Portuguese, and Korean interpreting and translations.

We’ve recently completed some document translations for the NFL itself. We translated communication pieces into Spanish, French, Samoan, as well as other languages. This week alone, we are working with the NBA who is hiring us to provide professional interpreting in multiple languages, among them Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Mandarin, along with booths, headsets, receivers, and technical support for a large event for FIBA (International Basketball Association) taking place in New York City in February.

American Language Services is a proud provider of voice over, translation, interpretation, transcription and media services to private industry, government at all levels, and educational and non-profit organizations. Martin Luther King Day

In January, an important and very meaningful national holiday takes place, Martin Luther King Day. Martin Luther King (MLK) was the legendary African American civil rights leader who believed in equality for all. He believed that all people had the right to be judged, not by the color of their skin, religion, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation, but by their deeds and the content of their character.

He had the courage to do this through non-violent, but proactive means of civil disobedience. Interestingly, MLK learned much of this philosophy from another legendary world leader, Mahatma Gandhi of India; who used similar methodology to help India gain Independence from English in the late 1940’s.

Both of these fabulous leaders were assassinated for their beliefs and for their unwavering support of equality. Their legacy lives on. In the United States, MLK’s legacy has only grown stronger throughout the years. We, at American Language Services, salute MLK and support his beliefs that everyone should have a fair chance to prove themselves and not be judged by superficial means.
American Language Services does their small share to ensure that everyone has a fair opportunity by bridging the communication gap between people who speak and write a wide variety of different languages from all races, religions and ethnic backgrounds. We do this by offering comprehensive and affordable services.

To illustrate this, we recently completed a translation for “Schools Without Walls”. The translation we provided were personal documents for Chinese prospective students who were applying to work with a very reputable non-profit organization. We translated Simplified Chinese to English to assist in the application process. Another interesting project we recently completed was for Handicap International. This organization assists handicapped individuals throughout the world who are stricken by natural and manmade disasters. We provided French interpreting, equipment, and technical support for a 5-day conference in Maryland. The conference went smoothly and was a big success.

Happy New Year

Now that the Holidays are over, we begin afresh in 2015. American Language Services would like to wish you a Happy New Year and a successful upcoming year. The start of the year brings some very positive changes to our organization. First, we’re very happy to announce a major re-launching of our website. This was many months in development and we’re very proud of how the new site looks and the improved ease of functionality.

Along with our website improvements, we’ve also made some physical changes to our corporate office. We’ve expanded and added much more room and workstations to keep up with the ever expanding demand and consistent growth of our business.

Of course, we couldn’t be expanding and continuing to grow without our great clients. This year started out with a bang. We were fortunate to be able to provide interpreting services for the well-known, national news show, “Meet the Press”. We provided French Interpreters for a series of interviews in regards to the tragic terrorism events in France with the Charlie Hebdo newspaper and the local Jewish kosher market. The panel also covered the massive anti-terrorism rally.

Another interesting job we have been doing is for the popular TV show, “The Blacklist”, starring James Spader. We have been doing language dialogue consulting, transcriptions, subtitling and editing in the Arabic language.

American Language Services is a proud provider of voice over, translation, interpretation, transcription and media services to private industry, government at all levels, and educational and non-profit organizations. Thirty Years in Business and Top Ranking Thanks to Customers Like You!

For American Language Services, the New Year is always a good time to take a step back and look at where we’re at and where we’re going.  Being a language service provider demands a global view. The earth is home to about 7 billion people. And last year, they spent more than $20 trillion (that’s $20,000,000,000,000) for goods and services. Much of that commerce involved more than one language.  In fact, the language market has continued to grow at a very rapid clip over the last 25 years.  It has grown by an average of 6.5% yearly in this time frame.  In 2013, it is estimated that the total language   market was nearly $35 billion in sales. The growth from 2009 to 2013 alone has been impressive, from $23.5 Billion to where it is now.  This is about a 50% increase in this time span.

Just like in the rest of the world, the language services market share continues to grow here in the U.S. With about 36% of the global market, revenues in North America are expected to exceed 13 billion in 2014 with the vast majority being in the U.S.  The other main world markets are in Europe and Asia. The EU represents about 49% and Asia 11% respectively.

So how does American Language Services stack up among the more than 27,000 global providers?

The figures are not quite finalized yet, but according to independent industry reports, American Language Services rank in North America, which is determined by yearly sales, is an impressive # 26.

Worldwide, American Language Services ranking is a notable # 108. We’re proud of these accomplishments and we’re proud to be celebrating our 30th year as a language service provider. So what’s our secret to surviving and thriving in such a competitive environment?

Our goal is a simple one: excellence. Our teams of linguists, project managers and other support professionals are passionate about delivering operational and service excellence at a good value. Our national and international rankings tell us that we are doing a lot of things right. Having some of the highest customer retention and referral rates in the industry further serves as a testament to the quality services we have been providing for three decades.

American Language Services is a proud provider of translation, interpretation, transcription and media services to government at all levels, education, private industry and non-profit organizations. Happy Holidays to All!

It’s hard to believe that the Holidays are upon us and New Year’s is right around the corner.  It’s amazing how fast things went in 2014 and that the year is almost over. American Language Services wants to wish each of you a Happy Holiday and happy and safe New Year’s coming up. Whatever Holiday you celebrate, whether it is Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, or even if you don’t celebrate the holidays, we hope that you were able to get some time off, have fun with your friends and family, and celebrate life.

This year, for our company party, we did something somewhat unusual. We hired a Limo bus which drove us to Marina Del Rey, where we leased a yacht in the Marina. We had a great time with each other, with a wonderful setting and scrumptious lunch and appetizers.

Even though there are a lot of extra activities in December, business goes on as usual. December business, for us, was very brisk. Following are some examples of what we completed, we did an interesting voice-over project for the company JumpSport, who specializes in the exercise industry. They produce very entertaining videos using techniques for trampolines. We translated scripts for them into Simplified Chinese and then did voice-overs for an instructional video for them in Mandarin.

We completed a 4-day CART project for the IRGO Expo in Las Vegas. We supplied CART services in which AML-Global CART providers typed out in real-time onto a screen so the deaf people in the audience could understand what was said.

One of our regular clients, Warner Brothers Entertainment, had a rush project where we translated a Chinese real estate contract within 24 hours so that they can meet a hard deadline to finalize a deal with their Chinese clients.

Another interesting job we did in December was for the Hispanic Group. The Hispanic Group is a marketing company that specializes in ultra-segmentation by using many demographic and ethnic parameters. We provided linguists in 8 languages, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, and others, so they could complete a market research project involving casting.

American Language Services is a proud provider of voice over, translation, interpretation, transcription and media services to private industry, government at all levels, and educational and non-profit organizations.
