Sir Richard Branson Speaks of Compassion for Hearing Impaired at Recent Expo
American Language Services continues to blaze a trail in providing top-quality language services at events and conferences covering cutting edge information that feature keynote speakers who are innovators in business, technology and government.
When the Hearing Innovation Expo, a major conference for independent hearing care professionals, needed linguistic service, conference organizers called on AML-Global to provide language interpretation at the well attended event presented at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
The Expo, sponsored by Starkey Hearing Technologies, was attended by some 3,000 hearing care professionals from all over the world. To accommodate many non-English speaking attendees, AML-Global was selected to provide Language Interpretation Services throughout the four day event.
Keynote speaker Sir Richard Branson, the British business magnate best known for his Virgin Group of more than 400 businesses, including Virgin Airlines and Virgin Records, was among a host of business leaders and dignitaries that made the event a memorable one.
In his address, Branson spoke of the need to be passionate about providing help to those with hearing loss. He also showed a video about one of his Virgin companies that will be taking paying customers by spacecraft to the edge of space.
Branson also engaged in a discussion with Starkey founder Bill Austin about what motivates them in their businesses, their considerable worldwide charitable efforts and their lives.
The event was attended by an international contingent of business people who had traveled from many corners of the globe to be part of the experience. The event required simultaneous Interpretation, and AML-Global provided two Korean, two Mandarin, two Italian, two Spanish, two French, two German and two Japanese Interpreters. Interpreters help deliver the content of keynote speakers’ addresses, as well as comments made at industry workshops and seminars. Interpreters help facilitate the free flow of communication, and help attendees comprehend the information being discussed with the impediments of language barriers.
In addition, AML-Global provided electronic equipment that aided in the delivery of linguistic services to non-English speaking attendees, including seven soundproof booths to isolate the interpreters from the audience, 210 headsets and receivers and 14 portable transmitters were employed to deliver the proper language channels to the recipients. A technician was also provided to keep all systems functioning smoothly throughout the event.

Attendees also heard talks by Jay Elliot, founder of Nuvel, Inc., a leading software company; Mary Furlong, EdD, an expert on Baby Boomers; Tonya Reiman, a Fox News Channel contributor; and Jake Gibbs, Founder of Legacy Frontiers, who spoke on how to hire the right people.

Jerry Ruzicka, president of Starkey, made a well-received presentation on the “21 Laws of Leadership and Employee Selection,” while Starkey senior VP Brandon L. Sawalich hosted a program entitled “Trends Powering the Age Boom and Marketing Strategies in the Digital Age.”
The afternoons were devoted to 40 break-out sessions based around the subjects of managing your business, providing a quality patient experience, taking full advantage of advances in technology, managing your employees and yourself more efficiently, giving back to your community and the world, and innovations in hearing technology.

Recently, we filled an assignment for a Lao interpreter for our long time client of 20+ years, The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
For those unfamiliar with the Lao or Laotian language, it is a tonal language of the Kradai language family, which is found most commonly in southern China and Southeast Asia. It is the official language of Laos, and has also known to be spoken in certain regions of Thailand.
AML-Global was able to fill LAUSD’s Lao assignment with very little notice. Although this was considered rush scheduling, AML-Global selects only professional and highly experienced interpreters for every assignment. Because of this, the result was extremely positive throughout the duration of the assignment.
